The play uses a series of vignettes to follow the lives of two London couples, Alice and Dan, and Larry and Anna. Over a period of four years, they split apart and come together in different combinations, in a ceaseless search for truth and intimacy. Alice is a young stripper, a prickly waif who's possibly lying about her past. Dan is a struggling novelist, reduced to writing newspaper obituaries. Larry is "in the skin trade" a dermatologist with a taste for online porn, and Anna is a photographer who meets Dan when she shoots some publicity photos to promote his soon-to-be-published book (which is about Alice, interestingly).
