Robert Joy, Ruby Joy, Jennifer Toulmin, et al. Set for Theatre by the Bay’s The Tempest

Theatre by the Bay has announced casting for Shakespeare’s The Tempest, to run June 30 – July 16 at the Downtown Theatre in Barrie, Ontario. Brett Christopher will direct the production, which will have original music and musical direction by Jonathan Monro and feature choreography by Carla Tucker.

The play centers on the deposed Duke Prospero and his daughter Miranda who are stranded on an island full of spirits and mysticism. Through his magical powers, Prospero conjures a storm to bring the men that conspired against him to the island. Once they arrive, the conspiracies, betrayals and deceit begin as Prospero attempts to return his family to power. Romance, comedy and action abound in this classic Shakespeare play.

The company will feature real-life father and daughter Robert Joy and Ruby Joy as Prospero and Miranda, along with Jennifer Toulmin (Ariel), Ryan Hollyman (Caliban), Caden Douglas (Ferdinand), Michael Rawley (Alonso), Sheldon Davis (Antonio), Richard Alan Campbell (Sebastian), John Dolan (Gonzalo), Scott Hurst (Trinculo), Kristian Bruun (Stephano) and Alex Dault (Boatswain).

The creative team will include Tim Webb (scenic design), Paul Boken (lighting design), Greg Rushton (sound design), and Christine Barrett (costume design).
