Louise Pitre Among Winners of Toronto’s Dora Mavor Moore Awards

The winners of the 31st annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards were announced in a ceremony held on June 28 at Toronto’s in the Bluma Appel Theatre of the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts. CBC Radio’s Jian Ghomeshi hosted the event.

Broadway star Louise Pitre won an Outstanding Performance by a Female for her work in The Toxic Avenger Musical. Pitre originated the role of Donna Sheridan in the Broadway production of Mamma Mia! and most recently appeared in New York in the Carnegie Hall concert version of Kristina.

Other musical theater winners included BirdLand Theatre and Talk is Free Theatre’s production of Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman’s Assassins and Jeff Lillico who won for his performance in The Light in the Piazza.

Other productions that received awards include Soulepper’s Parfumerie, Theatrefront’s The Mill, and Robert Lepage’s Lipsynch. Among the performers who won Dora Awards are Christine Horne, Ken MacDonald, Diego Matamoros, Tara Rosling, Clinton Walker, and Maurice Dean Wint.
