Jeremy Irons, James Earl Jones, Jane Krakowski, Audra McDonald, Helen Mirren, Brian Stokes Mitchell, et al. Set for Blackcreek Summer Music Festival

A number of theater veterans will be taking part in the Blackcreek Summer Music Festival, in Toronto, which runs June 4-August 30. Events will take place at The Rexall Centre at York University.

Helen Mirren and Jeremy Irons will perform Shakespeare verses from A Midsummer Night’s Dream as part of Music Inspired by Shakespeare, on Wednesday, June 29 at 8pm. Lorin Maazel will conduct the Castleton Festival Orchestra, and the program will also feature the women’s voices of the Castleton Festival Chorus.

Raúl Esparza, Jane Krakowski, Audra McDonald, Brian Stokes Mitchell, and Martin Short will be among the performers for The Very, Very Best of Broadway, on Saturday, July 9 at 8pm. The evening will be led by Marvin Hamlisch and also feature the BlackCreek Festival Orchestra and Chorus.

James Earl Jones will guest star in an “All-American Program” on Tuesday, August 30 at 8pm. Conducted by Maazel, the program will feature works by Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, and George Gershwin. Jones will be narrating Copland’s Lincoln Portrait, intoning the immortal words of the martyred President.

Additional festival programming will include Plácido Domingo with guest soprano Sondra Radvanovsky (June 4); James Taylor (June 25); Lionel Richie (June 28); Tony Bennett and Diana Krall (July 2); Denyce Graves (July 22); London Symphony Orchestra (August 27); and René Pape (August 29).
