Shaw Festival Veteran Al Kozlik Dies

Canadian actor Al Kozlik passed away at the Greater Niagara General Hospital on January 11 after suffering a stroke.

Kozlik had been a member of the Shaw Festival Ensemble for 28 years and appeared in over 40 productions at The Shaw, including S.S. Tenacity, The Cassilis Engagement, Three Men on a Horse, Detective Story, Getting Married, You Can’t Take It With You, The Simpleton of the Unexpected Isles, The Petrified Forest, Cavalcade, Saint Joan, Man and Superman, Geneva, He Who Gets Slapped, Night of January 16th, Camille, and The Suicide.

In addition to his work at The Shaw, Kozlik appeared for eight seasons at the Stratford Festival and worked at other Canadian theatres, including Theatre Plus, Theatre New Brunswick, Tarragon Theatre, the Citadel Theatre, and the Globe Theatre.

Kozlik’s television and film credits include Due South, Kung Fu, The Campbells, Home Fires, Night Heat, Mrs. Soffel, Friday the 13th, The Long Road Home and Dreamspeaker, among others.

He is survived by his spouse of 41 years, Scott Sunderland. A viewing visitation and service will take place on Friday, January 21, 2011 between 1pm and 5pm. Details and an online guestbook can be found by clicking here.
