A note to babblingwally: you shouldn't go to a stage show expecting it to be like the movie, especially when the movie version of that same stage show played fast and loose with the script and characterization and stuck in songs from other shows ("Tramp" is from Rodgers and Hart's BABES IN ARMS). Of course Joey's a heel! He's the first anti-hero in musical history! I'm in LA, so I can't see it, but the show itself is a landmark, and I'm glad somebody revived it, even if it didn't hit all the marks.

The historian in me wants to note that Les Miz and Two Cities are NOT set in the same period, although both have revolting Frenchmen. Les Miz starts in 1815, with Valjean's release from prison, and focuses on the failed student rebellion of 1832. Two Cities centers on the more famous French Revolution of 1789.

Be grateful you got to see an untampered script. We in LA had to sit through Jason Alexanders unfunny, illogical updating of the script to 1980s Los Angeles yes, the Dodgers, not the Senators! at Reprise! last year. It still hurts to think about.
