When Alex pretentious, spoiled son of a famous stage actress attempts suicide, we only wish hed first dispatched the rest of the cast. Clad in Nouveau Amish, hes one of those kids who smokes clove cigarettes, reads Ayn Rand, and becomes a stock broker in daddys firm-as compelling a character as an accountant.

Its ironic: Edward Albee attended opening night. This re-tooling of The Seagull is his stock-in-trade: a wealthy setting with hard-drinking, literary-minded characters. Sadly, the play lacks Albees ability to transform book-addled parasites into people we care about.
