WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Florida Studio Theatre opens its 2005 Cabaret Season with a revue that celebrates the music performed for the troops. The inspiration for G.I. Jive came from the importance of the music to the troops and those on the home front during the first half of the twentieth century. Music was not only a form of entertainment, but it also invigorated, gave the country hope, and rejuvenated spirits. From intimate ballads to rousing anthems, the music of the World War II era was a reflection of the culture and also presented an intimate portrait of a nation at war. As with every revue developed and produced for Florida Studio Theatre's Goldstein Cabaret, G.I. Jive presents a unique worldview, expressed through words and music. The songs capture the joys, tragedies and passions of "The Great Generation." The show is not only a collection of the songs that kept America strong during World War II, but also a celebration of the human spirit in times of great discord. Dennis Courtney directs.
