Academy Award winners Helen Mirren and Morgan Freeman will be honored at the Palm Springs International Film Festival with Career Achievement Awards for acting, to be presented at a gala on January 5 at the Palm Springs Convention Center. Mary Hart will host the event.

Mirren won the Academy Award for Best Actress, along with a Golden Globe, BAFTA, SAG and numerous other awards, for her performance in Stephen Frears’ The Queen. She stars in the upcoming The Last Station with Christopher Plummer, Paul Giamatti and James McAvoy, and is slated to appear in next year’s movie adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Tempest. The actress’ most recent stage outing was in Racine’s Phedre, a role which she played in London and Washington, D.C. The performance was seen globally through NT Live screenings.

Freeman won an Oscar for his performance in Million Dollar Baby, for which he also won a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award and received a Golden Globe nomination. Among Freeman’s other Academy Award nominations is one for Driving Miss Daisy, in which he recreated his award-winning Off-Broadway role. In 2008, Freeman returned to the stage in the Broadway revival of The Country Girl.
