Frank Galati, Anne Kauffman, Noah Racey, et al. Set for Asolo Repertory Theatre’s 2011-2012 Season

Asolo Repertory Theatre has announced its 2011-2012 lineup.

The company’s season will begin with a revival of Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe’s My Fair Lady, to run November 18 – December 23. Frank Galati will direct this classic musical version of George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion, about a linguistics professor’s attempts to turn a common flower girl into a lady. Also on the theater’s schedule is Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman’s Once in a Lifetime (January 6 – April 1). Mark Rucker will direct this satire about Hollywood’s early years.

Asolo will also produce Yasmina Reza’s portrait of two couples’ battles following their sons’ schoolyard squabble, God of Carnage, to run January 13 – February 29, directed by Greg Leaming; Leah Napolin and Isaac Bashevis Singer’s look at a young woman who disguises herself as a boy to attend yeshiva, Yentl, to run January 20 – April 26, directed by Gordon Greenberg; and Noel Coward’s look at two women eagerly anticipating a reunion with a Frenchman with whom they both had an affair, Fallen Angels (March 9 – May 13), directed by Peter Amster.

Other offerings at the Asolo will include Michael Donald Edwards’ Hamlet, Prince of Cuba, to run March 23 – May 6; Liz Brixius’ adaptation of Henry Moses’ film Who the *$&% Is Jackson Pollock, to run March 20 – April 22, directed by Anne Kauffman; and Tommy Tune Presents: State of the Art Song & Dance, a new show conceived, choreographed and featuring Noah Racey, to run May 25 – June 17, directed by Jeff Calhoun.

In addition, the theater will offer a touring production this fall of a new adaptation of Hamlet, directed by Dmitry Troyanovsky, and in the spring the company will present Unplugged 2012, an installment in its annual new play festival.

The Asolo Repertory’s FSU/Asolo Conservatory season will include Anthony Clarvoe’s adaptation of Fydor Dostoevsky’s The Brothers Karamazov (November 1-20), Kenneth Lonergan’s Lobby Hero (January 3-22), Friederich Schiller’s The Robbers (February 1 – March 11), and Caryl Churchill’s Cloud Nine (April 3-22).
