Florida’s Carbonell Nominations Announced; Andreas to Host

The nominations for the 32nd annual Carbonell Awards, honoring the best in South Florida theater, have been announced. The awards ceremony, to be hosted by Christine Andreas, will take place Monday, April 7 at 7:30pm at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Ft. Lauderdale.

The nominations are spread out over 30 different productions from 13 different companies. Leading the nominations is the Maltz Jupiter Theatre’s production of The Boy Friend which has been nominated for 11 awards including Best Production of a Musical. The theater also received 10 additional nominations for its production of Man of La Mancha.

GableStage’s production of The Lieutenant of Inishmore received nine nominations, the most of any non-musical. Additional shows that received multiple nominations include Urinetown at Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre (9), La Cage aux Folles also at Actors’ Playhouse (8), and Talk Radio at Mosaic Theatre (5).

Additional companies represented by nominations include New Theatre, City Theatre, Palm Beach Dramaworks, Florida Stage, New Vista Theatre Company, Caldwell Theatre Company, Inside Out Theatre Company, The Promethean Theatre, and The Women’s Project.

Individuals who received dual nominations include actors John Felix, Kim Morgan, and Paul Tei; directors David Arisco and Jay Simon, and designers Ellis Tillman, Sean McClelland, Matt Corey, Jeff Quinn and Donald Edmund Thomas, and Michael Bottari and Ronald Case.
