The Stratford Festival has a world-class reputation, and it's not just because of the many handsome Hamlets that that have crossed the stage during the past 45 years. Stratford's Main Stage has become known as one of the premier venues for theatre in the world because of its unique thrust stage that juts out into the audience, making every one of the 1,832 seats a good one and providing acoustics that would have sounded silver-sweet even to Shakespeare himself.

Major renovations to the main theatre in 1997 modernized what was becoming a dated building, and expanded the square footage to keep the building from bursting at the seams and spouting curly wigs, silk tights and creamy petticoats all over Queen's Park. The grounds of the theatre have also been re-landscaped, making what were already formidable gardens into part of the show
