HISTORY THEATRE

MISSION : History Theatre seeks to inspire, entertain and provoke audiences through the creation of new plays that explore Minnesota's past and the diverse American experience.

History Theatre is a recognized leader in Minnesota, the Midwest and the nation for creating new work based on the American experience. In the past 30 years History Theatre has created more than 100 new works for the theatre. Through our productions that serve more than 60,000 patrons each year, a new play lab with year-round workshops and readings, and education and community partnerships History Theatre is an essential cultural destination for artists, audiences, and patrons as well as a leading resource for theatre companies desiring to produce original and dynamic work.

During Artistic Director Ron Peluso's tenure, History Theatre has commissioned over 60 playwrights: "I've directed Shakespeare and operas, but really, there is nothing like creating new work about the real people and real events that have shaped our community, our state and our country. It is our duty, as a society, to remember those who came before and the events that have shaped the lives we now live. History Theatre is proud to be a part of that legacy."
