St. Louis Political Theatre Festival Announces Line-up

Twelve St. Louis theater companies have come together in a collaboration to bring to local audiences the second bi-annual St. Louis Political Theatre Festival, to run August 15-November 23.

The season will open with Johnny A Cannon II: Johnny Descending, August 15-30, presented by The Immediacy Theatre Project at The Tin Ceiling. St. Louis Shakespeare will present King Lear, August 15-24, at the Grandel Theatre, and the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis will present Frost/Nixon, September 3-28, at the Loretto-Hilton Center for the Performing Arts. The NonProphet Theatre Company will present The Patriotic Freedom Bingo Machine, September 5, at the Off Broadway theater, and Stray Dog Theatre will present Regrets Only, September 11-27, at Tower Grove Abbey. New Line Theatre's production of Hair, September 11-October 18, will open at the Washington University South Campus, and The Orange Girls will open in the Anheuser-Busch Studio Theatre at COCA with Scorched, September 12-28.

West End Players Guild will present Copenhagen, September 19-28, at Union Avenue Christian Church and St. Louis Actors' Studio will bring Jean Anouilh's Antigone, September 19-October 5, to the Gaslight Theatre. That Uppity Theatre Company will present Playback Workshop Theatre in Coming Out Stories 2008: Yours, Mine, and Ours October 11-12, at the Missouri Historical Society. The Stray Dog Theatre production of Pippin will open at Tower Grove Abbey, October 23-November 8, and Upstream Theater's Blood Knot, October 23-November 9, will play at the Kranzberg Arts Center. St. Louis Actors' Studio will present 9 Parts of Desire, November 7-23 at the Gaslight Theatre, and Bill Chott will bring Comedy on Parade every Monday night throughout November at the Atomic Cowboy. Finally, The NonProphet Theatre Company will present Laura's Bush, with dates and venue to be announced at a later date.
