Established in 1993, Umoja (Ki-swahilli for "unity") uses dance to encourage cross-cultural exchange and a deeper understanding of the human spirit. The choreography draws its inspiration from African-Caribbean traditions, classical Indian dance, capoeira and the fundamentals of yoga practice in creating an innovative, dynamic, and rhythmic dance experience. In celebration of Black History Month, Umoja will perform with live accompaniment by a troupe of virtuosic African drummers.
