WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

The Greek fleet assembles in the bay of Aulis ready to launch an attack on Troy, but the wind suddenly drops and the ships stand idle. The army blames its leader, Agamemnon, who, in danger of losing his command, arrives at a solution: to sacrifice his own daughter to the Gods in return for a favorable wind. Iphigenia in Aulis, written in 410 B.C.E., is the last surviving work of the playwright Euripides. First produced after his death, the play won first prize at the ancient Greek Festival Dionysia.
