A crumbling theater scheduled for demolition is the setting for Follies, a nostalgic look at the lives of theater people.
Follies revisits the glory days of the "Weisman Follies," a musical revue based on the legendary Ziegfeld Follies that played between the two World Wars. Among the performers returning for one last chance to celebrate their theater and their youth are two troubled couples - Buddy and Sally Durant Plummer, and Ben and Phyllis Rogers Stone. The reunion brings up old wounds and forces the aging performers to consider how far their lives have diverged from their youthful dreams. Set to a beautiful musical score, the former Follies girls recreate some of their most memorable numbers, with Sally and Phyllis shadowed by ghosts of their younger selves.
