THEATRE COOPERATIVE
Directions
FROM THE SOUTH: Take I-93 North to exit 29 in Somerville. Follow the signs for Route 28 South (look out for the signs--they're small--you'll have to make a sort of u-turn under the highway, then turn right). Once you're on Route 28 South the next light will be Broadway. Take a right. The theatre is about 3 blocks up on your right, across the street from the Fire Station. If you get to the Star Market on your right you've gone two doors too far.
FROM THE NORTH: Take I-93 South to exit 30. At the end of the exit ramp (there's a light) turn Left onto Mystic Ave. At the second light take a Right on Temple Street. At the second light take a Left on Broadway. There will be a Star Market immediately on your left. We are two doors past the Star Market on your left. If you get to the next traffic light, you've gone too far.
FROM THE WEST: From Route 16 take Broadway East into Somerville (away from Arlington). Continue on Broadway (a long way) through the rotary in Powderhouse Circle, up and over the hill. At the bottom of the hill (Winter Hill) you'll see a Star Market on your Left (it's the only Star Market on Broadway). The theatre is two doors past the Star Market on your Left.
FROM MEMORIAL DRIVE: Take Memorial Drive East to the Cambridgeside Galleria and the Museum of Science. Take a Left onto Route 28 (the McGrath Highway, the Museum of Science will be on the corner on your right). Stay on Route 28 (there will be two forks in the road, stay to the right to stay on Route 28). Immediately after the second fork you will cross over a white trellised bridge. The light after the bridge is Broadway (it's a big intersection at the bottom of the hill--there's a Dunkin' Donuts on the left, and two gas stations on the right). Take a Left onto Broadway. The theatre is about 3 blocks up on your right across the street from the Fire Station. If you get to the Star Market on your right you've gone two doors too far.
BY T: The theatre is on the 89 and 101 bus routes in Somerville.
FROM THE ORANGE LINE, take the T to Sullivan Square. At the station take the 89 or 101 bus. When you see the Star Market on your right, get off the bus. You will have just passed us. The theatre is on the same side of the street as the Star Market.
About
Mission: It is the mission of The Theatre Cooperative to present productions which challenge audiences to see the world with different eyes. The Theatre Cooperative was founded with the following goals: to provide powerful, timely and important theatre to New England audiences; to develop new works and new talent; and to push the boundaries of theatre as an agent of social change and social medicine.
Seasons: Each year The Theatre Cooperative presents four mainstage productions. Plays are selected around a theme or issue the company feels is particularly relevant for the time. It focuses on new works, little-known pieces by well-known playwrights, and plays which audiences won't find in the seasons of theatres around Boston. The company's seasons have focused on issues of social concern, racism, gender, the mechanization of society, and the tyranny of conformity.
The Theatre Cooperative's Experimental Stage producations each year include a Season Kickoff: a specially-selected one-act play presented in the same evening with performances by local singer/songwriters. The company's Ritalin Readings: A Festival of 10-Minute Plays brings in large audiences each season and features the ever-popular Ritalin Raffle and performances by local musicians. And the New Play Series presents original one-act plays by emerging New England playwrights.
