Steve Blanchard, Melissa Gilbert, Kara Lindsay -- who respectively starred as Pa, Ma, and Laura in the world premiere engagement of Little House on the Prairie at the Guthrie last season -- will headline the new national tour of the musical, which will play the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, New Jersey beginning September 10, and then officially launch at the Ordway Theatre in St. Paul, Minnesota in October. As at the Guthrie, the show is directed by Francesca Zambello, and features music by Academy Award winner Rachel Portman, lyrics by Donna di Novelli and a book by Tony Award winner Rachel Sheinkin. The design team includes Adrianne Lobel (sets), Mark McCullough (lighting), and Jess Goldstein (costumes). The show, which is based on the books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, and tells the uplifting story of an American family forging a new life amidst the mighty challenges, heartbreaks, joys and triumphs that face them in the newly-settled heartland.
