WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Adapted from stories by Abdulla Kayri, White White Black Stork resembles a modern-day Romeo and Juliet and takes place at the end of the 20th century. It features a Muslim boy and girl born in the old city of Tashkent. They are both dreamers who do not observe social conventions of their Muslim community. The boy falls in love with another boy, but submits to an arranged marriage to the girl, who also has another love. Married through familial agreements, their wedding leads to despair, family quarrels and, like Romeo and Juliet, tragedy.
Following the Seattle engagement, Ilkhom Theatre Company will head to Dartmouth College, Hopkins Center, Hanover, NH (April 18-19); Indiana University, Bloomington, IN (April 23); Miami University, Hall Auditorium, Oxford, OH (April 25-26); and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco, CA (May 16-18).
