Based on Goethe's poem, "Der Zauberlehrling", which was in turn probably inspired by the second century Lucian's work Philopseudes, The Sorcerer's Apprentice tells the cautionary story of a lazy young acolyte who has enough knowledge to initiate mystical forces without the ability to stop them.

Mary Hall Surface's delightful adaptation of the story offers that if the exuberance of the youthful apprentice needs to be tempered by the experience of the old Sorcerer, so too does the cynicism and skepticism of old Sorcerer need to be softened by youth's abundant wonder.
