A stylized, modern maritime odyssey, Emerald and the Love Song of the Dead Fishermen tells the story of a corporate coffee shop barista, marked at birth with green hair. On the Day of Dead Fishermen, when all the fishermen lost at sea walk again on a legendary island, Emerald Fasma will have one chance to meet her father who died at sea the day she was born. She is joined in her journey by her disaffected coffee shop manager and a woman would-be fishing captain in drag. With a blend of whimsy and poetry, Emerald and the Love Song of the Dead Fishermen combines old traditions of mythology with a sardonic view of modern life in the Northwest. This is a play with puppets, sea chanteys, and a dose of heartache.
