(© Tristan Fuge) | Kate Whoriskey will be Intiman Theatre's new artistic director beginning in 2011, following a year in which she will share artistic leadership with the Seattle-based theater's current artistic director, Bartlett Sher. The two will begin the transition this month, and will plan the 2010 season together.
Whoriskey is currently represented in New York by the Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Ruined, and has previously directed The Chairs, The Lady from the Sea, and Blue/Orange at Intiman. Off-Broadway directing credits also include Inked Baby and The Piano Teacher, while regional directing credits include work at such theaters as Chicago's Goodman Theatre, DC's Shakespeare Theatre, and the Actors Theatre of Louisville. She is currently an associate artist at South Coast Repertory, where she has directed numerous productions, and a visiting lecturer at Princeton University.
As previously announced, Sher is now the Lincoln Center Theater's resident director, and is currently represented on Broadway by South Pacific, for which he won the Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle Awards. He also received Tony nominations for the recent revival of Joe Turner's Come and Gone, as well as Awake & Sing! and The Light in the Piazza.
