WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Based on the novella by Elizabeth Spencer, with Book by CRAIG LUCAS and Music and Lyrics by ADAM GUETTEL, this soaring musical whisks you away to Italy for a captivating tale of passion and romance. It's the summer of 1953, and Margaret Johnson is traveling the Tuscan countryside with her daughter Clara. When a handsome young Florentine captures Clara's heart, Margaret must decide if she will risk revealing the truth that could threaten her daughter's happiness. A glorious throwback to the romantic musicals of the past, it premiered at Seattle's Intiman Theatre in the summer of 2003 before taking the Broadway stage in 2005, where it went on to win six Tony Awards. Bainbridge Performing Arts is the first in the Pacific Northwest to stage the show since it stopped touring. The BPA production will be directed by Steven Fogell. Produced by arrangements with TURNER ENTERTAINMENT CO., owner of the original motion picture Light in the Piazza. Suitable for all ages.
