WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Faith, family and the conflict between public appearances and private realities are the themes in Obie Award-winning playwright Donald Margulies' adaptation of Sholom Asch's controversial Yiddish drama GOD OF VENGEANCE. Shut down after it opened on Broadway in 1923 because of the content, the play tells the story of Yankel, a father devoted to preserving his daughter's innocence, who maintains a home of exemplary values and religious faith, while running a brothel in the basement. Yankel's attempt to sheild his daughter from the sin and sexuality two floors below lead to explosive events as one family struggles with its own demons.
