With time occurring in reverse chronological order, Betrayal centers on the marital infidelity between Robert, his wife Emma, and his best friend Jerry. From the first scene in which the adulterers, Emma and Jerry, have been split up for two years, the story proceeds to go back in time, from the chilly breakup in the small London flat that Emma and Jerry have kept for seven years to the torrid beginning when Jerry hides in Emma's bedroom hoping to surprise her and declare his passion. In the end, with all the characters feeling victimized, the question remains: Who really betrayed whom?
