Tony nominee Anthony Heald will once again star in Bill Cain’s Equivocation, when the Oregon Shakespeare Festival production of the play comes to Seattle Repertory Theatre, November 18-December 13. Bill Rauch will once again direct.

Heald will play Shakespeare — or Shag as he’s called in the play. The plot involves a royal commission that Shakespeare is given to write a play about the Gunpowder Plot of 1605. The play explores Shakespeare’s struggle to write a play that will please — or at least not offend — the king, and what it means to tell the truth, to equivocate — and to lie — in politics, art, and life.

The cast — who all originated their roles at OSF — will also include Richard Elmore as Richard, Jonathan Haugen as Nate, John Tufts as Sharpe, Gregory Linington as Armin, and Christine Albright as Judith.

Heald received Tony nominations for his performances in Love! Valour! Compassion! and Anything Goes, with additional Broadway credits including Inherit the Wind, A Small Family Business, The Marriage of Figaro, and The Wake of Jamey Foster. Film and television credits include Silence of the Lambs, Outrageous Fortune, Boston Public, and Boston Legal.
