Donald Byrd to Choreograph 5th Avenue Theatre’s Oklahoma!

Tony Award nominee Donald Byrd will choreograph The 5th Avenue Theatre‘s production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! The production will run July 8 – August 6, 2011. Bill Berry will direct, with casting to be announced at a later date.

Byrd, perhaps best known as the artistic director of Donald Byrd/The Group, received a Tony Award nomination for his choreography of The Color Purple. He is currently artistic director of Spectrum Dance Theater, which has previously collaborated with The 5th Avenue on West Side Story, and most recently On The Town.

Berry, producing director of the theater, has previously directed such productions as On the Town, West Side Story, and Cabaret at the theater.

The creative team will also include Walt Spangler (scenic design), Alejo Vietta (costume design), Tom Sturge (lighting design), and Zach Williamson (sound design).
