Lynn Nottage’s Ruined Extends Through August 15 at Intiman

Lynn Nottage’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Ruined has extended its run at the Intiman Theatre in Seattle, through August 15. As previously reported, the production will then travel to the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles, September 7-October 17. Kate Whoriskey has directed.

The play is set in a small mining town in the war-torn Democratic Republic of Congo, where Mama Nadi both protects and profits from the young women who seek refuge in her rain forest bar and brothel.

The company stars Portia (Mama Nadi), Quincy Tyler Bernstine (Salima), Cherise Boothe (Josephine), Russell G. Jones (Christian) and Condola Rashad (Sophie), along with Tongayi Chirisa (Jerome Kisembe/Soldier), Carl Cofield (Fortune/Soldier/Miner), Simon Shabantu Kashama (Guitarist), Tom Mardirosian (Mr. Harari), Ron McBee (Pascal/Soldier), David St. Louis (Commander Osembenga/Soldier), and Stephen Tyrone Williams (Simon/Soldier/Miner/Aid Worker).

The creative team features Derek McLane (set), Paul Tazewell (costumes), Peter Kaczorowski (lighting), Rob Milburn & Michael Bodeen (sound design and music direction), Dominic Kanza (original music), Warren Adams (choreography), and Geoffrey Alm (fight choreography).
