Actress, playwright, director, and activist Regina Taylor will receive The Hansberry Project’s 2011 Legend Award at the organization’s annual Juneteenth Celebration, to be held in the Bullitt Cabaret at ACT Theatre, on June 18.

The event will feature excerpts from Taylor’s popular musical, Crowns, directed by Valerie Curtis-Newton. It will also include food, drink, live music, and an opportunity for guests to meet the honoree. Proceeds benefit The Hansberry Project.

Taylor is perhaps best known as an actress for her work on such television shows as I’ll Fly Away and The Unit. As a writer, her other plays include Oo-Bla-Dee, Drowning Crow, and Magnolia.
