Seatle Rep Replaces Hay Fever with 39 Steps

By Dan Bacalzo • May 4, 2009 • Seattle
The Seattle Repertory Theatre will replace its previously announced production of Noel Coward's Hay Fever, with the Seattle premiere of The 39 Steps, to begin performances September 25.

A comedic take on Hitchcock's 1935 classic thriller of the same name, The 39 Steps features a cast of four actors playing over 150 characters in a fast-paced adventure. The play is adapted by Patrick Barlow, based on an original concept by Simon Corble and Nobby Dimon and on the book by John Buchan. The play won the 2007 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy, as well as two Tony Awards, and two Drama Desk Awards.

Seattle Rep's staging of The 39 Steps will be presented as a co-production with La Jolla Playhouse.
