David Wiener Receives ACT’s 2010 New Play Award for Extraordinary Chambers

David Wiener has been named ACT Theatre’s 2010 New Play Award winner for his play Extraordinary Chambers, which will receive two readings to be offered February 27-28 in the Bullitt Cabaret at ACT Theatre. Kurt Beattie will direct the performances, which will both be followed by talkbacks with the playwright and director.

Set in Cambodia following one of the worst cases of genocide in the history of the world, the play focuses on an American businessman who has come to Phnom Penh with his wife. As they attempt to conduct their business, they stumble into a minefield of deception, intrigue, and betrayal connected to the Killing Fields of the Khmer Rouge.

The company will feature Jose Abaoag, Francois Chau, Khanh Doan, Tracy Hyland, and Darragh Kennan.

Wiener’s other plays include Guts, La Arana, Love Song of the Apocalypse, Blood Orange, in vitro, Cassiopeia, and System Wonderland. His work has been developed and produced in the United States and the United Kingdom at theaters including: The Cherry Lane, The Atlantic Theater, The Almeida Theater, The New Group, South Coast Repertory, The Berkshire Theater Festival, The Ojai Playwrights’ Conference, and Soho Rep.
