ArtsWest Announces 2008-2009 Season

ArtsWest will present six plays during its 2008-2009 season, featuring five Seattle premieres, and one world premiere.

The season will open with the Seattle premiere of The Vertical Hour by David Hare (September 10-October 4), a play about Nadia Blye, a war correspondent who believes America has a moral obligation to intercede in Iraq. Next up, the world premiere of Black Gold by Seth Rozin (October 22-November 15) follows an African-American man who purchases an oil rig on eBay and discovers a large oil reserve right under his own backyard. The Seattle premiere of Plaid Tidings: The Forever Plaid Christmas Show by Stuart Ross (November 28-December 23) brings back the hilarious quartet, The Plaids, to sing their swingin’ holiday favorites.

The season will continue with Lisa Kron’s Well (January 21-February 15) which explores the dynamics of health, family, and community. The Seattle premiere of The History Boys by Alan Bennett (March 4-29), follows six British school boys in pursuit of sex, sport, and a place at a good university. Finally, the Seattle premiere of Gutenberg! The Musical! by Scott Brown and Anthony King (April 15-May 17) is a spoof in which two aspiring playwrights perform a backers’ audition for their new project.
