Gerald Hiken Cast in TheatreWorks' Twentieth Century

By: Dan Bacalzo · Jan 6, 2009  · San Francisco Bay Area

Tony nominee Gerald Hiken will play "Matthew Clark" in TheatreWorks production of Twentieth Century, which will perform at the Mountain View Center for the Arts, January 14-February 8 with an opening on January 17. Robert Kelley will direct.

In Ken Ludwig's adaptation of this Ben Hecht-Charles MacArthur play (based on a play by Charles Bruce Milholland), a rapidly declining Broadway impresario in the 1930s looks to revive his sagging career by coaxing his unforgiving former flame (now a mercurial silver screen starlet) into starring in his next stage production while aboard a train roaring across the U.S.

The cast will also feature Gene Carvalho (George Smith), Jackson Davis (Dr. Grover Lockwood), Rebecca Dines (Lily Garland), Bob Greene (Owen O'Malley), Suzanne Grodner (Ida Webb), Dan Hiatt (Oscar Jaffe), Ed Sarafian (Conductor), Michael Gene Sullivan (Max Jacobs/Beard/Detective/Porter), and Ayla Yarkut (Anita Highland).

Hiken received his Tony nomination for the 1980 play Strider, and his additional Broadway credits include Three Sisters, The Good Woman of Setzuan, Gideon, and Fools. He has previously been seen at TheatreWorks in Third, Once In A Lifetime, and Shakespeare in Hollywood.
