Set in the Eisenhower era, Zombie Prom takes a simple girl-meets-boy story line and irradiates it into a ghoul-gets-girl musical, mixing in shows such as Little Shop of Horrors, Grease and The Rocky Horror Show. Perky and pretty high school senior, Toffee, falls for the school's rebel, Jonny Warner. When Toffee's parents forbid the relationship, Jonny drives his motorcycle into the atomic power plant next to Enrico Fermi High. The unexpected fallout of mixing this love-struck teenager with nuclear waste is that Jonny comes back as an oozing zombie--hell-bent on graduating and destined to take his girl to the prom. Despite the principal's disapproval of "mixed" couples and refusal to admit mindless students, the result is a two-hour songfest exploding with mutations of doo-wop, teenage ballads, rousing gospel and rock. Book and Lyrics are by John Dempsey; Greg Schuh directs.
