Based on the hit Julie Andrews film about the young lady who travels to Manhattan to find a career and a beau, Throughly Modern Millie tells the story of a small-town girl, Millie Dillmount, who comes to New York City in 1922 to marry for money instead of love. Her intentions reflect the "modern" outlook of the time period, when women were entering the workforce, raising their hemlines, and bobbing their hair.
