Taking on the most mutable of all literary traditions, Emma Donoghue riffs on the plots and themes of classic tales. Stripped down to the archetypes lurking beneath the surface, these bold reworkings of standard myths are both universal and unexpected, offering a fresh take on the modern world. Kissing the Witch steers clear of sap, nostalgia and kitsch, allowing Donoghue to write about women and put them at the center of fantastical tales that never end with a "happily ever after." The collection of tales focuses on the relationship between women and celebrates the transformation that's possible when women take charge of their own happiness.
