WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

If you are not in a bon ton roulette frame of mind, then you've come to the wrong show, because feisty and fashionable songstress Kim Nalley gives a jazz/blues thrill to New Years Eve that few performers can match, in the Bay Area or anywhere. San Francisco Chronicle says she has "pipes to burns and works the stage like she means it." A powerful blues singer, a jazz stylist who can put her stamp on American songbook standards, an assertively lascivious vaudevillian with an entire book of bawdy songs brimming with double entendres, A soul drenched vintage R&B master, Nalley defies all categorization, except one, her mojo will get you moving. Awarded as one of the "Most Influential African Americans in the Bay Area," Ms. Nalley was first brought to national attention by SF Symphony director Michael Tilson Thomas after he discovered her singing nightly at the Alta Plaza to packed audiences with no amplification and invited her to sing a program of Gershwin with the San Francisco Symphony. Since then, she has recorded several critically-acclaimed CDs on labels distributed worldwide, including She Put A Spell On Me: Kim Sings Nina Simone, which was short listed for a Grammy, and Million Dollar Secret, which charted in the Jazz Top 40. As an actress she has portrayed Billie Holiday in the drama "Lady Day in Love," Blues Speak woman in Zora Neale Hurston's "Spunk" and has starred in Teatro Zinzanni as Madame Zinzanni a role subsequently filled by Joan Baez and Sandra Reeves-Phillips. Also an accomplished playwright, Nalley's bio-musical about Ella Fitzgerald entitlted, "Ella: The American Dream opened on New Year's Eve last year and sold out its entire run by the first night, so get your tickets quick!
