Winner of the Tony award for Best Play, Peter Shaffer's brilliant Equus is a masterpiece of psychological theatre. When Dr. Martin Dysart meets Alan Strang, an adolescent boy brought to him by a local judge, he assumes the boy will be just another in a long line of disturbed children he has long tired of treating. Instead, Dysart is faced with something far more complex and disturbing: a confrontation with himself, through Alan's story, that leads him to the inescapable view of man's need to worship, and the distortions society forces upon that primitive need. Equus uses a complex and visionary theatricality to explore an unexplainable crime and the impact of that crime's origin on both patient and doctor. Equus contains nudity and adult themes. No children under 18 are permitted unless accompanied by an adult.
