City Solo: A food junkie blogger, a Marshallese poet, a comic with a crazy ass grandma, the reality of your thirties, and a Bollywood Princess take the stage at Off-Market Theater!
City Solo is a fresh, new solo performance series featuring a diverse collection of the finest solo artists, comedians, and storytellers in the Bay Area. Each show features a dynamic line-up of four short pieces, written and performed by the solo artists themselves. In May 2010, the City Solo Sunday evening showcases will feature:
MONICA BHATNAGAR (5/2 & 5/16 only)
Monica, a pre-adolescent fantasizer, negotiates bullies and emerges as a fabulous Indian heroine in "Bollywood Princess".
SUSAN ITO (5/16 & 5/23 only)
Susan Ito was an overweight, rice-loving couch potato when she got a wakeup call that threatened her with diabetes and worse. Follow her roller coaster ride in "FoodFoodBodyBody", from the medical laboratory to Weight Watchers and the world of jogging and secret blogs. Can she have her cake and have her health too?
KATHY JETNIL-KIJINER (5/2 & 5/23 only)
In "Iep Jeltok (yep gel-dok) : Woman a Bountiful Basket", Kathy is a Marshallese girl that swims between responsibility to her family and to herself and along the way finds her own meaning of the Marshallese term iep jeltok.
In "Twenty-Nine" Sarah strives to meet her many expectations of Adulthood. It's just that Reality gets in the way.
In "I Heart Lola", Nicole realizes that life with grandma is suddenly not the same... for Nicole and for her grandma.
