WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Traveling Jewish Theatre's new play, Blood Relative, goes beyond
ideology to explore the human dimension of the Middle East conflict. The play focuses on a character with a Jewish mother and a Muslim father. Claimed by both cultures, he embodies the ongoing struggle over the land known as Israel/Palestine. Working in TJT's signature ensemble style, actors play multiple roles: family members - liberal, conservative, religious, secular, young and old - as well as a chorus who evoke the mythical underpinnings of the conflict as found in the Torah and the Koran. A participatory dialogue (as opposed to a post-show discussion) will follow each performance, where audience members will have an opportunity to respond with their own stories and experiences. TJT Artistic Director Aaron Davidman directs.

The play will perform for five weeks in San Francisco (March 17 - April 17,) at Traveling Jewish Theatre on 470 Florida Street, followed by a two-week run in Berkeley (April 21 - May 1, 2005) at the Julia Morgan Center for the Arts on 2640 College Avenue. Opening Night is Sunday, March 20th at 7pm at Traveling Jewish Theatre in San Francisco.
