WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

42nd Street is set in the spring of 1933. This love-letter to Broadway is the quintessential behind-the-scenes musical extravaganza, telling the rise-to-fame story of chorus girl Peggy Sawyer who strives for stardom. When the female lead in a bound-for-Broadway show hurts her ankle a mere 36 hours before opening night, little Peggy is thrust into the toughest rehearsals of her life. The show incorporates hit after hit, including "We're in the Money," "Shuffle Off to Buffalo," "I Only Have Eyes for You," "About a Quarter to Nine," and "Lullaby of Broadway." 42nd Street is loosely based on one of many of the 1930's popular Busby Berkeley plays, and is generally considered one of the most successful productions in the history of Broadway musicals. Simon Kaplan directs, with musical oversight by Marc Lionetti.
