The Roundabout Theatre Company production of Cabaret invites audiences to leave their troubles outside as it starts its run at Golden Gate Theatre.

Set in Germany in the early 1930s, the musical presents the infamous Kit Kat Klub. As political tension and social unrest bubbles to the surface outside, the performers at the club, including Sally Bowles and the Emcee, insulate themselves from the harsh realities of life. When Sally meets someone new, however, and the Nazi party becomes ever more influential, even the idealized and raucous world of the club isn’t safe from the changing times.

With iconic music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, along with book by Joes Masteroff, the Tony Award-winning production is directed by is directed by Sam Mendes. Rob Marshall codirects and choreographs the cast, which features Randy Harrison as the Emcee, Andrea Goss as Sally Bowles, Shannon Cochran as Fräulein Schneider, Alison Ewing as Fräulein Kost/Fritzie, Mark Nelson as Herr Schultz, Ned Noyes as Ernst Ludwig, and Lee Aaron Rosen as Cliff.

The creative team includes Robert Brill (set and club design), William Ivey Long (costume design), Peggy Eisenhauer and Mike Baldassari (lighting design), and Brian Ronan (sound design).

Performances will run through July 17.
