TheatreWorks Announces Cast for West Coast Premiere of The Pitmen Painters

TheatreWorks will be presenting the West Coast debut of The Pitmen Painters at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, January 18-February 12. Leslie Martinson will direct.

Penned by Billy Elliot writer Lee Hall, The Pitmen Painters is based on the true story of The Ashington Group — four English miners who signed up for an art appreciation class in the 1930’s and, thanks to the influence of painter/professor Robert Lyon, went on to become prominent figures within the British art world of the 30’s and 40’s.

The cast will feature James Carpenter (George), Jackson Davis (Jimmy), Dan Hiatt (Harry), Patrick Jones (Oliver), Paul Whitworth (Professor Lyon), Kathryn Zdan (Susan) and TheatreWorks newcomers Nicholas Pelczar (Young Lad/Ben Nicholson) and Marcia Pizzo (Helen Sutherland). Andrea Bechert will serve as set designer.
