Hal Holbrook will bring his acclaimed one-man show Mark Twain Tonight to the Marin Veteran’s Memorial Auditorium in San Rafael on Saturday, November 22 at 8pm.

Begun as a college honors project, Holbrook first performed solo as Mark Twain in 1954. In 1959 a refined version of his show opened off-Broadway to immediate acclaim. The show won an Obie Award in 1959, followed by a Tony Award and Drama Critic’s Circle Award in 1966. Holbrook constantly revises the material to fit the times and there is no set program; he chooses the material on the fly. So enamored of the material is Holbrook and the theatre-going public that the show has been performed continuously since 1954 (over 2,100 performances), making 2008 the 54th consecutive year for this remarkable one-man show.

Holbrook received a 2008 Academy Award nomination as Best Supporting Actor for his role in Into the Wild. In addition to Mark Twain Tonight, his many Broadway credits include An American Daughter, Does a Tiger Wear a Necktie?, I Never Sang for My Father, and The Apple Tree.
