Casting Set for L’Histoire Du Soldat and Renard at Oakland Opera

Oakland Opera Theater has announced the casting for its upcoming productions of L’Histoire Du Soldat and Renard, October 23-November 2. Tom Dean will direct both productions with choreography by Shannon Gaines.

Originally penned in 1918 with a WWI setting, Igor Stravinski’s L’Histoire Du Soldat will be reset in the Iraq War with the story of a soldier who trades his violin to the devil in exchange for riches and power. The cast will feature Ben Jones as the Soldier, Matthias Bossi as the Devil, and Kirya Traber as the Narrator.

Stravinski’s one-act, Renard, will follow L’Histoire Du Soldat each night with an updated libretto by Rebecca Lenkiewicz. The vocal ensemble for Renard will feature Darron Flagg (tenor), Ben Jones (tenor), Richard Mix (bass), and Igor Vieira (baritone). The cast will also include juggler/acrobat David Hunt, circus artist/acrobat Brionna Noack, aerial hoop dancer Erin Schrader, circus performer/dancer Jodi Power, and burlesque dancers Artemis Anderson, Sarah Moss, Abigail Munn, and Christie Welter.
