Miguel Cervantes, Jason Hite, Eryn Murman, et al. Set for San Jose Rep’s Spring Awakening

San Jose Repertory has announced casting for its production of the Tony-winning rock musical, Spring Awakening, to run September 1-25. Rick Lombardo will direct, with choreography by Sonya Tayeh of So You think You Can Dance.

Based on Frank Wedekind’s 1891 play, the musical tells an alluring story of self-discovery and coming-of-age anxiety as seen through the eyes of a group of teenagers in 19th-century Germany. It features book and lyrics by Steven Sater and music by Duncan Sheik.

The cast features a blend of Broadway veterans, local Bay Area up-and-comers, and students from San Jose State University. The production will star Jason Hite as Melchior, Miguel Cervantes as Moritz, and Eryn Murman as Wendla.

The cast will also feature Lowell Abellon (Georg/Reinhold), Ernestine Balisi (Thea), Justin Buchs (Otto/Dieter), Cindy Goldfield (Adult Female), Monique Hafen (Anna), Joshua James (Hanschen), Todd Alan Johnson (Adult Male), Zarah Mahler (Ilse), Kristen Majetich (Martha), and Manuel Rodriguez-Ruiz (Ernst/Ulbrecht).

The production features vocal arrangements by AnnMarie Milazzo, string orchestrations by Simon Hale, set design by John Iacovelli, costume design by Rachel Myers, lighting and media design by David Lee Cuthbert, sound design by Steven Schoenbeck, music direction by Dolores Duran-Cefalu, and fight direction by Dave Maier.
