Emmy- and Tony Award-winning actor Mandy Patinkin will once again star in Rinne Groff’s Compulsion when the play is performed at Berkeley Repertory Theatre, September 13-October 31, with an opening on September 16. Oskar Eustis will direct.

The play centers on Sid Silver (Patinkin), a man obsessed with the diary of Anne Frank. The character is inspired by Meyer Levin, the journalist and screenwriter who helped publicize the existence of the diary, and who came to believe that the chance to adapt it for the stage had been stolen from him.

Patinkin previously played his role at Yale Repertory Theatre earlier this year, under Eustis’ direction. He will be joined by Hannah Cabell, who also performed in the play at Yale Rep, and Matte Osian. The ensemble will also feature three puppeteers: Emily DeCola, Daniel Patrick Fay, and Eric Wright.

The creative team will feature Eugene Lee (sets), Susan Hilferty (costumes), Michael Chybowski (lighting), Darron L West (sound), Jeff Sugg (projections), and Matt Acheson (puppets).
