Seana McKenna to Star in A.C.T. and Stratford Co-Production of Phèdre

Seana McKenna will star in the title role of American Conservatory Theater’s production of Jean Racine’s play Phèdre, to be presented in Timberlake Wertenbaker’s new translation. The play will be produced as part of the Stratford’ Shakespeare Festival’s 2009 season, and then move to San Francisco in early 2010. Carey Perloff will direct will the production.

Phèdre is a dramatic tragedy in five acts about the dying queen’s obsessive love for her stepson, Hippolytus, and Hippolytus’ love for the forbidden beauty Aricia. Wertenbereker is best known as the author of Our Country’s Good.

McKenna most recently appeared in The Clean House at the Canadian Stage Company and in Burn Up for the BBC. Her many stage credits include The Glass Menagerie, Private Lives, Noises Off,< i>Good Mother, A Streetcar Named Desire, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and Hedda Gabler.
