American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) has announced casting for the West Coast premiere of The Normal Heart, to run September 13-October 7, with an opening on September 19. George C. Wolfe directs the production, which is presented in association with Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater in Washington, D.C., by special arrangement with Daryl Roth.

Larry Kramer’s landmark play focuses on the early years of the AIDS crisis in New York City, telling the story of a tight-knit group of friends who refuse to let doctors, politicians, and the press bury the truth about an epidemic ravaging the gay community behind a wall of silence.

Patrick Breen will once again play the starring role of Ned Weeks (reprising his performance from the Arena Stage run), and will be joined by Matt McGrath as Ned’s lover, Felix Turner and Jordan Baker as Dr. Emma Brookner, a passionate physician.

The cast will also feature Tom Berklund (Craig Donner/Grady), Michael Berresse (Mickey Marcus), Sean Dugan (Tommy Boatwright), Jon Levenson (Hiram Keebler/Examining Doctor), Nick Mennell (Bruce Niles), and Bruce Altman (Ben Weeks).

The Normal Heart reunites members of the Broadway revival’s design team, including scenic designer David Rockwell, costume designer Martin Pakledinaz, lighting designer David Weiner, sound designer and original music composer David Van Tieghem, and projection designer Batwin & Robin. Joining the team is restaging director Leah C. Gardiner.
